Black Grouse in the Lüneburg Heath

Aufwind supports measures to protect the endangered black grouse in the Lüneburg Heath. The Institute for Terrestrial and Aquatic Wildlife Research at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover is actively working to preserve this species.

The black grouse used to be widespread, but due to habitat loss, the population has declined drastically. Today, there are still about 1200 animals in Germany, the main focus is in Bavaria. In the Lüneburg Heath, a small residual population of 200 animals persists. To preserve this, the institute is improving habitats and researching habitat requirements.

With their donation, Aufwind makes this important nature conservation work possible. The survival of the rare bird species in the region is to be secured through biotope management and scientific research.
