Help for Moors

Recently, Aufwind has become increasingly involved in protecting the moors and heaths in the Hilden Heath. Together with the Haus Bürgel Biological Station, the city of Hilden and the district of Mettmann as the lower nature conservation authority, we are currently supporting initial renaturation measures. We are focusing in particular on areas south of the Jaberg and east of the Taubenberg.

Aufwind's declared goal is to preserve this valuable habitat with its biodiversity. Intact moors are home to numerous endangered animal and plant species and, as effective CO2 stores, bind large quantities of climate-damaging carbon. For these reasons, we strongly advocate the rewetting of drained areas and the removal of disturbing woody plants. Only in this way can renaturation succeed in the long term.

We hope to contribute to the protection of the moors and heaths in the Hilden Heath through targeted measures such as these. As a regionally anchored nature conservation association, we see it as our task to preserve these valuable habitats for future generations.
